Walnuts & Suede is a concept album that tells the story of a teenaged wanderer who succumbs to total psychic annihilation and must claw their way through their own consciousness in order to find their way back to reality, losing bits and pieces along the way. What is reality, anyway? What is virtue? Do the answers even matter?
Recorded at The Guest House in Olympia over the course of four years. Special guests include opera singer Sam Cori, whose voice nearly shook the house off its foundations, Neil Holbert, whose rippin horns solos dazzle cosmically, Dave Crager, whose atmospheric and tasteful horn parts really tie the room together, and Olivia Rose, whose sweet voice can faintly be heard for a brief moment like an echo through space and time.
Most sounds and textures came the environment of constant change, as this record took over four years to make. River Nason is featured on every track, from synth programming to vocal arrangements to the entire rhythm section. And all words and songs are, of course, written by the inimitable Will August Raisl.
